Like a fire
Time is fleeting …
"Breath"… "air-filled lungs" “a gust of wind"… "fire"…
so many words twirling in the whirlwind of the Spirit.
Still there is the gale force of Pentecost between stuggle and utopía.
Breathe deep breaths
air-filled lungs
and with our breath
the flame is rekindled
faces light up
in its radiance.
Let us care for the fire
which the people have built.
1 - How long has it been
since first it was lit
by the live coals from God
that came from so far away?
But it is the struggle of the people
that keeps the flame
from ever going out.
2 - Let us add logs
dried from the pain
of all of the lives
that today are squeezed dry
and from the ashes
warmth will return
as we tend the fire
when the sun goes down.
3 - In the dark night
prison of oppression
a pure ray of light
signals liberation
as the flickering flame
grows stronger --
the power of the poor --
Solidarity.
4 - Neither the arrogant
nor the fear of suffering
nor the powerful
can quench this flame
that with breath and pain
sets courage aflame
as the fire burns on.
